2018.3 Update: 2018 Q2 categories are released!
Many of you have credit cards that earn 5% back on bonus categories that rotate quarterly. If you are a Chase Freedom, Discover It, Citi Dividend, or US Bank Cash Plus cardholder, use the links provided below to activate your 2018 Q2 (4.1~6.31) bonus categories indicated below:
1. Chase Freedom: PayPal, Chase Pay and Groceries!
Chase is trying something new: PayPal, both purchases and sending money counts! Grocery is nice, too, and I believe everyone should be able to easily max out the 5x rewards in this quarter. Note that, as usual, Walmart, Target, and Costco don’t belong to the category of grocery.
The Chase Freedom has a quarterly cap of $1500 in spend on 5x categories per account.
2. Discover it: Grocery
Discover has released the categories for the whole year. If you have max out Freedom, you can then use Discover it on grocery. Note that, as usual, Walmart, Target, and Costco don’t belong to the category of grocery.
The Discover it has a quarterly cap of $1500 in spend on 5x categories. Remember that all new Discover IT cardholders will earn a 100% bonus on cash back earned in the first 12 months of card membership, including on cash back earned in bonus categories, making quarterly category spend worth 10% cash back in the first year!
3. Citi Dividend: Home Depot and Home Furnishing Stores
The Citi Dividend earns 5% cash back on a cumulative total of $6,000 in quarterly 5x spend per year rather than on $1500 spend per quarter. Drug stores are a good place to find Visa, MasterCard, and merchant gift cards, so if you have a Dividend you probably have maxed out in that quarter. The Citi Dividend is no longer available for signups, but you can product change other Citi accounts to it once those accounts are at least 1 year old.
The US Bank Cash+ card allows you to earn 5% cash back in two categories of your choice every quarter, up to $2000 in combined spend. The Cash+ also allows you to choose a 2% cash back category every quarter, but that is no reason to hold this card. The image below shows which categories are available for 2% (left) and 5% (right) cash back.
